Rainforest Vase
11”x6” | terracotta, underglaze, glaze | 2025
In the midst of a sixth major extinction, we have the power to make a difference. This work is meant to bring attention to the dangers species such as the silver back gorilla face, whether due to habitat destruction or overhunting. My goal with this work is to inspire hope for change in our society, in order to collectively reverse the damages we have caused in nature.
In making this piece I took inspiration from artists such as Tom Pakele and Julia Galloway. Pakele inspired my color palette, using the colors of nature in order to create a beautiful landscape. Galloway in sculpting and painting a figure of a gorilla in order to embody its beauty and strength.
